Words from CLP Board Members – Vincent Rouffiange

For nearly 40 years, the Club Laser et Procédés has been bringing together the key players in the laser industry, highlighting the people who drive its progress. Through this series of interviews, we invite you to discover the CLP board members — their backgrounds, their visions, and their commitments to shaping the future of laser technology in France.

Today, we give the floor to Vincent Rouffiange, Vice President and Director of Strategy and Business Development at AMPLITUDE. With a career that bridges technical expertise and business development, he has dedicated his professional journey to photonics and to promoting the use of ultrafast lasers across industries. He shares with us his involvement within the CLP, his motivations to strengthen the French laser ecosystem, and his vision of laser technology as a driving force for industrial and ecological transformation.

What has been your career path and your first encounter with laser technology?

“I have a technical background in optics, followed by studies in business development and marketing of high-tech products. I first worked in the field of fiber optic telecommunications.

It was when I joined AMPLITUDE that I discovered lasers — particularly ultrafast lasers. At that time, their use for precision micromachining was just beginning, and I was fascinated from the start!

Over the course of my career, I’ve seen these lasers applied in a wide range of fields: first in ophthalmic surgery, then in watchmaking and the manufacturing of medical components. Later, applications expanded into microelectronics, flat-panel displays, and semiconductors — and more recently, into highly promising sectors such as aerospace and automotive, especially around high-performance batteries.”

What motivated you to get involved in the CLP Board of Directors?

"What motivated me to join the CLP Board of Directors was, above all, the richness of the French laser ecosystem.

I’ve spent a lot of time developing AMPLITUDE’s business internationally, but I realized just how vibrant the French community is — with world-class technology centers and cutting-edge research on laser–matter interaction.

The CLP is a fantastic forum to strengthen this momentum in France and to better connect it with our industrial environment. The opportunity to build something solid and lasting at the national level is what truly inspired me.”

What are your ambitions for the development of the CLP and the laser sector in France?

“My ambition for the CLP is to continue growing this laser community in France — among both industrial players and researchers. The idea is to further strengthen the momentum around laser–matter interaction and to establish the French community as a key global player in this field.”

Why would you recommend a company to join the CLP?

“Joining the CLP means becoming part of a dynamic network where the players in the field share their experiences, needs, and ambitions. It also offers increased visibility, partnership opportunities, and privileged access to information about collaborative projects and market trends. In short, it means being part of a collective that defends the interests of the industry while fostering real industrial and technological synergies.”

In your opinion, what are the future directions for the development of laser technology?

“In my opinion, the future of laser technology lies in its growing integration as an advanced solution for a wide variety of industrial processes.

Lasers help improve precision and automation while reducing waste and the use of chemical products.

One major development axis is the increase in the average power of ultrafast lasers, allowing their precision to be applied to an ever-wider range of fields.

In summary, the challenge is to make lasers a benchmark technology for the manufacturing of tomorrow — cleaner, smarter, and more efficient.”

Through his testimony, Vincent Rouffiange highlights the major ambitions of the French laser sector: strengthening the links between research and industry, fostering innovation in laser–matter interaction, and positioning France as a global leader in this field.

His involvement within the CLP Board of Directors perfectly reflects the organization’s mission — to consolidate a strong national ecosystem capable of supporting the growing adoption of laser technologies across multiple industries, from microelectronics to aerospace, and from medical devices to energy.

A warm thank-you to Vincent Rouffiange for this inspiring contribution, which reminds us how the CLP plays a key role as a catalyst for innovation, synergy, and competitiveness, in support of a more precise, cleaner, and more efficient industry.
