PLI Conferences: Guest Speaker – Sylvain Lecler

PLI Conferences: Guest Speaker – Sylvain Lecler

On September 24 and 25, Strasbourg will host the PLI Conferences, a key event dedicated to laser processes for industry.

The event is organized by CLP, IREPA LASER, ICUBE, IPG PHOTONICS, PRECITEC, and the PHOTONICS INSTITUTE, with support from TRUMPF and OPTOPRIM, in partnership with PHOTONICS FRANCE.

Among the many experts who will be speaking, we had the honor of meeting Sylvain Lecler from the ICUBE laboratory . In this interview, he shares his background, his insights into current and future trends in the industry, and his reasons for participating in the PLI Conferences.

Discover his answers:

Could you tell us about your professional background and significant experiences in the field of laser and industrial processes?

I joined INSA Strasbourg as a professor in 2019, where I lead the photonics team at ICube. My work focuses on advanced laser processes, photonic jets, and ultrashort pulse laser technologies.

How do you believe laser processes are revolutionizing the industry today?

In my area of expertise, ultrashort pulse lasers open up an extraordinary range of applications. They allow for precise processing of nearly any material—from the hardest to the most fragile—without causing collateral damage, and they are available in industry-compatible formats.

Why did you choose to participate in the PLI Conferences, and what are your goals as a speaker at this event?

The PLI Conferences offer an opportunity to showcase our work on glass welding and surface functionalization, carried out as part of the Labcom ANR LaserSurf project in collaboration with IREPA LASER.

As an expert, what do you believe are the main current and future trends in the field of industrial lasers?

A major challenge is equipping laser stations with monitoring tools and data collection systems to enable automated learning and rapid feedback. Photonic technologies play a vital role in this evolution.

In your opinion, what role does the Club Laser et Procédés play in promoting and advancing laser technologies in the industry?

The CLP helps drive the sector, building bridges between academic and industrial stakeholders. It provides a space for brainstorming, knowledge sharing, and the pursuit of technical solutions.

We look forward to Sylvain Lecler’s talk at the end of September in Strasbourg!
